Hybrid: Susan Cagle and Mayaeni

Hybrid: Susan Cagle and Mayaeni

Show Description

Susan Cagle and Mayaeni pair-up tonight to perform an spine-tingling, acoustic set.

The Aruba-born singer/songwriter, Cagle was discovered by producer Jay Levine, during a show in the Herald Square subway station.  "I went to see her and there were hundreds of people around buying her CDs," Levine recalled of the first time he met Cagle, who had already sold more than 30,000 copies of her self-made CD. "Her voice was so unbelievable, so positive and uplifting in such an unlikely place ... she was like a diamond in a pile of rocks, hypnotizing everyone who passed."Levine, in turn, introduced her to then new president of Columbia Records, Steve Greenberg. She soon became his first signing in this placement.

Mayaeni is the daughter of an American rock guitarist/songwriter and West African mother from Sierra Leone. The constant sound of her father's guitar awakened a desire in Mayaeni to express herself in music. Her mother, a community organizer for Africans in Detroit, exposed her to rich experiences in the US and abroad. During her adolescent years, Mayaeni spent summers in England with her cousins and traveled to Sierra Leone and developed a unique view of the world as a result of her experiences living abroad and traveling.
